bridget conn EXHIBITion

     Bridget Conn earned a BFA in Studio Art from Tulane University in 2000, and an MFA from the University of Georgia in 2003, concentrating in Photography, Mixed Media, and Installation. As a part-time professor throughout much of the 2000s, she was also active in the Stillmoreroots Group, an artist collective based in east Georgia, focused on bringing art opportunities to underserved populations through exhibition, education, and outreach. Their annual one-day Art in the Woods exhibition drew visitors from all over the Southeast in a celebration of community, music, and site-specific installation art.

     Bridget’s exhibitions include solo shows at the Kimball Art Center in Park City, Utah, the William King Museum in Abingdon, VA, the Art Museum of the University of Memphis, and the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art in Augusta, GA. Her group shows include the Northlight Gallery at Arizona State University, Gallery 1/1 in Seattle, the Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, CO, and Sparks Gallery for the Medium Festival of Photography in San Diego. Internationally she has shown in the Chiang Mai Photography Festival in Thailand, as well as venues in Italy, Hungary and South Korea. She has been a resident at Elsewhere Artist Collaborative in Greensboro, NC, and the Hungarian Multicultural Center in Budapest. Her work has been featured in Lenscratch, Lightleaked, The Hand Magazine, Exposure Magazine, Focal Plane Magazine, and “Rich Community: An Anthology of Appalachian Photographers” by Sapling Grove Press.

     In 2009, Bridget relocated to Asheville, NC where she taught at several colleges while working as an arts writer, designer, and independent artist.  Her association with the Phil Mechanic Studios Public Darkroom blossomed into The Asheville Darkroom, a non-profit art educational facility which she founded in 2012 and served as Executive Director and primary instructor through May 2016. Bridget returned to Georgia in August 2016, where she now is an Assistant Professor of Art at the Armstrong Campus of Georgia Southern University in Savannah. She teaches multiple forms of photography, including experimental darkroom processes that are the basis for her current body of work.
